Rose excited over newest Raptor hires

SPORTS REPORTER
LOS ANGELES—Jalen Rose has some shopping to do.
News that the Raptors will add hall of famers Alex English and
Wayne Embry to a staff headed by new general manager Rob
Babcock has the noted clothes horse ready to search out a
special piece for his wardrobe.
"I've got to go buy his throwback jersey and put it on," Rose
said of English, the legendary Denver Nuggets forward who'll
become Toronto's director of player personnel with an official
announcement tomorrow. "It'll give me something to brag about
around here."
Rose, who is at the NBA Finals as a guest interviewer for The
Best Damned Sports Show Period, welcomed news yesterday morning
that the Raptors had settled on a management team to replace
Glen Grunwald.
"Sometimes when you take a long time to make a decision, you
come up with a bad decision (but) to come and score like this,
that's a huge boost for our team," Rose said.
Embry and English bring a wealth of experience to the Raptors.
Embry, 68, is a former president and chief executive officer of
the Cleveland Cavaliers. While he's been in semi-retirement since
leaving the Cavs after the 2001 season, he was the team's general
manager for 13 years and president for two.
English played 16 seasons in the NBA, scoring 25,613 points. He's
worked as an assistant coach and scout with the Atlanta Hawks and
spent last season as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia
76ers.
