Vince Answers Email September 30, 2003 30-Sep-2003 13:30 By Vince Carter Q: Good Afternoon Vince, Who is your role model or mentor? Would you consider yourself a role model? Are you a family person??? If you had to teach youth one thing in life what would that be??? Colleen from Canada A: Well Colleen to answer your question, I am very much a family man. I love my family very much and will do anything I can for them. My role model would be Dr. J. He is someone I've looked up to and admired for a long time. I like the way he carries himself and cares about others. Yes, I consider myself a role model. Athletes become role models when they step into this profession. You just have to know how to use that designation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Q: Hey Vince, I just wanted you to know that I’m a big fan of yours! I was wondering, when your about to start a game, how do you have the confidence to play, to drive to the net and take the 3's, I mean do you ever feel nervous or scared? How do you take the pressure of your whole team and the whole crowd off you? D'you have any tips? Jeremy from Montreal, Quebec A: Hi Jeremy. The way I handle all of that is to focus and see the game before it happens. I usually listen to music on the way to the game. The music helps get me ready to play. Right before the game I visualize the game before it happens. After a while, this will become a routine. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Q: I just wanted 2 say that I'm your #1 fan. I also need some advice on basketball. I have 3 older brothers and 3 older sisters. They continue 2 tell me that basketball is a {should I say} a boys sport. Also I don't know how it will be this year playing basketball in the United States. I just moved from Japan because my parents are in the MILITARY. So if you could please reply soon and thank you 4 being you. Candace from Ferriday, Louisiana A: Candace, I think women's basketball has evolved over the last few years and is respected all over the world. Now hear me out, it's not on the NBA level, but it's holding its own. It could be a little different for you playing in the United States, but you should enjoy the challenge. Just play your game and see what happens . . . . ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Q: Yo Vince. What's up! I hope you're enjoying your summer. I just want to start by telling you that you're my favorite player and the best player in the NBA. U even have the potential to surpass Jordan himself Vince. Don't let anybody tell you differently. And congrats on making team USA.. again! Now my question. It's 2 parts. Sorry. What kind of dedication did it take for you to get to where you are today? How do you keep your love of the game alive after playing it for so long? I've been at my sport since I was little and I had big plans then...but now it seems like those plans aren't on my mind anymore. I need to get my spark back because if I do, I'll change the game. Well.... Thanks for the answer if give me one Vince. I'm sorry for talking so much. I just got a lot to say to a guy like you. And remember. You are the best player in the NBA. I don't know if you realize it but...you are. You're a good person to do all that charity work and stuff. Keep it up. Marc from Toronto A: Thanks for the kind words, Marc. The dedication that I have to make it in this league comes from within. I want to be good so badly that I am willing to work hard at training and practice to make it in this sport. This won't come from someone else telling you that you want it. The individual has to decide how good and how far he/she wants to go. You must understand that there are other people out there working hard while you are trying to find your motivation. Therefore, I would say that first you must decide if you love the game. If you do, then go for it. I keep my love for the game by accepting new challenges. I don't care how good players think they are, they can always get better. . . Good luck! http://www.vincecarter15.com/news/fulltext.sps?sid=8819&lid=1&aid= 27496&atpval=0 -- THE DICTIONARY HAS HUNDREDS OF WORDS TO DESCRIBE DESIRE, WILLPOWER AND DETERMINATION. YET, NONE OF THOSE WORDS PORTRAYS ME, 'CAUSE I AM MORE THAN THAT. THERE ARE MANY WHO LOVE THE GAME, YET, THEY HAVEN'T INVENTED THE WORD THAT CATEGORIZES THE DEPTH OF MY PASSION. WHEN IT COMES TO BASKETBALL I LOVE DEEPER THAN MOST, I WILL POSTERIZE AND IMMORTALIZE YOU FOR LIFE BUT A DUNK IS TWO POINTS.... AND MY GAME IS MORE THAN THAT. -VC- -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.224.103.19
