Wow, time flies when you're having fun! What's up friends? It's me,
VC. Since we spoke last, a lot of fun and interesting things have
happened. Where do I start? Let me tell you about the Foresters
Vince Carter Youth Basketball Academy. As you may know I was unable
to attend the camp this year. I was selected by USA Basketball to
replace a fellow NBA player as we competed against other countries
for a gold medal in the 2004 Olympic-qualifying tournament held in
San Juan, Puerto Rico. I am proud to say that we played great and we
now hold the gold medal. While I was away preparing and practicing,
I was constantly contacting staff members from my basketball academy
to make sure everything was well and all of the campers were happy.
I received nothing but great news. The coaches applaud you on a job
well done.
In my absence I called upon a few friends of mine to assist me.
They taught valuable skills about life and basketball. I would like
to send a special thanks to our new assistant coach Ron Oliver, our
General Manager Glen Grunwald, The Raptor, and Steve Nash for taking
time out of their busy schedules to spend valuable time with my
campers. The lessons taught in my absence make me feel great because
I know they will take you a long way.
While I was away improving my skills in Puerto Rico, I spent a lot
of time evaluating myself and my appreciation for basketball.
Playing against some of the best players the world has to offer, I
was able to physically prepare myself by getting in shape for the
upcoming season and building confidence in myself and in my body.
I owe my success in Puerto Rico to my campers because without your
support and understanding it would have been very difficult for me
to perform. A lot rides on this upcoming season. With the help of
the fans, we must make sure we have a remarkable season. As mentioned
earlier, my confidence level has risen, my body feels great, my team
is healthy, and we have a great new coaching staff that is ready to
lead us to the promised land! So…watch out NBA because here come the
Toronto Raptors!
