Former Real Madrid defender Ivan Helguera has claimed that the signings of Mesut Oezil and Ricardo Carvalho were not needed, and has added that he is unsure as to how they will fit into the starting line-up in the 2010-11 season. Helguera, who made over 200 appearances for Los Blancos during an eight-year period at the Santiago Bernabeu, was discussing the club’s transfer policy in an interview with website Defensa Central. He stated that although he was more than aware of the quality of both players, he was unsure how they would be utilised by coach Jose Mourinho. Helguera commented: “Oezil had a good World Cup, but I do not know if he will fit in at Madrid.
