Part of his problem stems around injuries, including a recurring injury that
has limited his durability in recent seasons and could pop up again at any
time. During the 2003 and 2004 campaigns, Beckett was hampered by blisters on
his pitching fingers. The average person might think " big deal… I get finger
blisters sometimes, how much of an impact can it be?" The answer? It IS a big
deal. If the blisters on Beckett's fingers are in just the right locations,
then it affects being able to grip the ball, pitching mechanics, delivery, etc.
Being forced to alter your delivery due to a blister could mean a better chance
for opposing teams to hit home runs or key base hits during a game as well as
potentially injuring yourself.
