Tim Wakefield is set to pitch on Thursday, after missing Friday's start with an ailing back. His personal catcher will be back that night as well as Doug Mirabelli takes his spot behind the plate. There is a chance that Kevin Cash could pinch hit for Mirabelli earlier in the game than would be normal because of the team's confidence in him catching Wakefield. 2. Jon Lester will pitch on Friday night. 3. Clay Buchholz will be working out of the bullpen for the time being. He will only pitch "structured innings," though that definition was left open by manager Terry Francona. Francona would not say whether that meant Buchholz would only pitch clean innings. He may get another start this season, though that is yet to be determined. 4. Curt Schilling left the park shortly after 4 p.m. today to deal with a family matter. Schilling got dressed and packed up rapidly, before taking off.
