BOSTON -- The Red Sox and right-hander Daniel Bard agreed to a one-year deal to avoid arbitration. WEEI.com reported the deal is worth $1.6125 million, a figure exactly between the $1.825 million Bard asked for and the $1.4 million the Red Sox offered at the arbitration deadline. Bard is in line to be one of the most critical components of the Red Sox in 2012, as the successful reliever is slated to at least attempt a transition to the starting rotation. The 26-year-old was drafted out of North Carolina as a starter. The additions of back-end relievers Andrew Bailey and Mark Melancon certainly suggest that Boston takes Bard's potential shift to the rotation seriously. Bard's 2-9 record in 2011 belied a very successful first five months of the year. He did not allow a run in either June or July, and his 3.33 ERA was bloated by a hideous September that saw him lose four games with a 10.64 ERA. With Bard signed, there are now three remaining Red Sox with the potential to go to arbitration in David Ortiz, Alfredo Aceves and Bailey. -- 溫馨 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 118.161.164.134
