CHICAGO — Globe colleague Nick Cafardo is reporting that Carl Crawford could
miss three months because of his elbow injury.
The Red Sox will be issuing a statement shortly, we're told.
Suffice it to say, that seven-year, $142 million deal is looking worse every
day. Crawford had the worst season of his career in 2011 and there may not be
much of a 2012 season for him.
In other news:
‧ Cody Ross (left knee) is getting a day off but is available to pinch hit.
Bobby Valentine expects that he will play on Friday. "I'm fine," said Ross,
who was wearing an elastic sleeve on his knee. "We're just being careful."
The Sox will roll the dice with Lars Anderson in left field. He has no major
league experience there and four games at Pawtucket. And it's windy here.
"I’ve watched him now for four days. He’s good off the fungo," Valentine
sad. "The reports on him are that he caught everything that was hit to him
when he played. We’ll see. Hasn’t been challenged. I would say that the
wind and the big league hitters will challenge him a little more than he’s
been challenged before. He feels good about it.”
‧ Valentine said Rich Hill has passed all the tests that he needed to pass
in his rehab and "It’s conceivable" he joins the team this weekend.

第一年低潮,第二年有接連傷病問題,
七年合約頭兩年的貢獻已經所剩無幾,如果再加上最後兩年的衰退......
Lars 若能中規中矩地守左外野,
他就能獲得更多在大聯盟證明自己的機會。

CHICAGO — Red Sox left fielder Carl Crawford has what the Red Sox are
calling a "sprain" of his ulnar collateral ligament.
A conservative treatment was recommended, meaning rehabilitation as opposed
to surgery. He also received a platelet rich plasma injection to try and
speed the healing process.
The Red Sox did not issue a timetable for Crawford. But sources have told the
Globe Crawford could miss up to three months.
Crawford started the season on the disabled list, recovering from surgery on
his left wrist. The Red Sox tried a program of rest and rehabilitation on his
wrist last fall but he ultimately had surgery.
Crawford, who is in the second year of a seven-year, $142 million deal,
missed a month last season with a strained hamstring.
The statement from the team:
"Carl Crawford was examined by the Red Sox medical staff. He was diagnosed as
having a left elbow ulnar collateral ligament sprain. A conservative
treatment protocol was recommended. Carl was also examined by Dr. James
Andrews who was in agreement with the assessment and plan. Carl received a
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injection and will be shut down from baseball
activity during the initial phase of his treatment."
