CINCINNATI -- First baseman Joey Votto and his stiff neck appeared close to returning to the Reds' lineup as of Sunday morning, but how close? That's to be determined. Votto left it up to manager Dusty Baker and the medical staff, but will have some input. "I can tell them how good I'm feeling. Sometimes, they'll try to be more cautious," said Votto, who was out of the lineup for the fifth straight game as the Reds played the Astros. "I feel better. It's hard to go from nothing to a game without batting practice. I anticipate I will hit today, do my exercise, running and throwing. We'll see how it feels from there." Votto, who threw and ran Saturday for the first time since his injury, was scheduled to take batting practice in the indoor cage on Sunday morning. Baker was inclined to not rush Votto back into the lineup, even though the Reds open an important three-game series at St. Louis on Monday. "When they say they're ready, I like to wait one day longer," Baker said. "There's something different about working out than there is to playing. The importance and impact of the next series -- if it was September, it'd be a different thing. But right now, we can't afford to lose him for any extended length of time." In the meantime, the Reds have been winning without Votto and his replacement, Miguel Cairo, entered the day 10-for-18 (.556) with two homers and eight runs scored in the last four games. So Votto wasn't down about being idle the last few days. "Not really, we're winning," said Votto, who was batting .312 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs. "The guys are hitting really well and Miguel is playing great. There's really nothing for me to be upset over. I'd be really upset if we were losing 4-3 and 2-1 and I'm not there for it. With all of these wins, I'm having a great time to be honest with you." Votto可能趕不上對紅雀的系列戰,多休息也好,現在不急。 -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 140.112.244.86
