翻譯自http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/5583639.html March 1, 2008, 12:55AM COMMENTARY Second look all it took By RICHARD JUSTICE Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle On the first day of training camp, Rafer Alston pretty much said his goodbyes to the Rockets. It's been nice, no hard feelings, etc. He was gracious and typically good-natured. Now about that trade to Miami or wherever. Waiting. Still waiting. Hey, this is getting awkward. Alston ultimately was forced to go to training camp with a team that no longer wanted him. Talk about taking the edge off a new season. That's when Rick Adelman pulled him aside. "You can come in and play your tail off and show what you can do," Adelman told him. "Or you can pout." What Alston did after that speaks volumes about his makeup and professionalism. He didn't just play hard and keep his mouth shut. He forced the Rockets to take a second look at him. He came into camp and outplayed the guy who had been brought in to replace him (Steve Francis) and all the other guys, too. He's not the biggest surprise of this strange season. Not with the emergence of Carl Landry and Luis Scola. Not with the way the Rockets have evolved into the NBA's hottest team despite an array of injuries. He's just one of a long list of things that have gone right for a team that finished a perfect February and won its 14th straight in a 116-95 rout of Memphis on Friday night at Toyota Center. Playing a second straight game without Yao Ming, the Rockets again got off to a fast start, running up leads of 14-0 and 20-2. Alston was in the middle of everything, throwing in a pair of 3s in the opening 79 seconds. 79 Adelman apparently loved Alston from the start. Loved his attitude. Loved the way he ran his offense. In some ways, Alston was the perfect point guard for a coach who prefers a fast game. "You've just got to be a professional," Alston said. "I've been in this league nine years. I've been on different sides of the spectrum. You have to focus on the things you can control. That's how I approached it. Coach understood the different things the guards brought to the team. He knew I could run the show, penetrate the basketball and hit some spot-up 3s. The other guards brought more scoring to the table. With two superstars, he knew I could orchestrate the offense, give those two guys the ball and feed off of them." MM。The problem was that he was playing on a team trying to trade him, a team that essentially had replaced him. How did he focus on practice in such circumstances? "You can only control so much," he said. "You can control how you play and how you act. You can't control anything else." Shane Battier added: "Rafer has incredible strength. It's tough when every time you go out you hear the whispers that you aren't good enough. Rafer's a competitor. He never complained. He worked off his frustrations by staying in the gym and staying positive. We wouldn't have had this run without Rafer." Huge part of turnaround The Rockets didn't think they could win in the playoffs until they got more perimeter offense from their point guards. After Alston shot 34 percent in the playoffs last season, they wanted someone else. That's why they drafted Aaron Brooks and brought back Francis and Mike James. With those three in the house, it was just a matter of finding a taker for Alston. "Rafer played so well from day one," Adelman said. "He struggled with his shot early in the year, but he played through that. He's been a huge part of our turnaround. You've got to give him credit. He approached it with the attitude that he was going to show everyone what he can do." Alston had all 11 of his points midway through the first quarter Friday night, and the Grizzlies never came close to making it competitive. His 4-for-4 start was followed by an 0-for-9 finish. If one of those cold streaks comes at the wrong time, it could usher the Rockets right out of the playoffs. That's probably why Brooks is the man next season no matter what. There I go doubting Alston again. As Alston himself said this season: "No one questions whether I can do it. It's just a matter of whether I can do it consistently." His numbers have improved month by month, and as he has gotten more aggressive, his shooting percentage has improved. "I saw ways I could be more aggressive, and coach encouraged me to be more aggressive," Alston said. "We went over where and when. When one of the superstars is out, we need someone else to produce. At times, we do it collectively — myself, Scola, Landry. I started seeing more opportunities." He mainly got the opportunity he never expected to get. He's still here. 突然有感而發 廢話竟然比翻譯內容還多 囧 -- ███ █ █ ████ ████ ████ ████ █ █ ████ ██ █████ █████ Japan THE LAST LIVE ▉▊▋▌▍▎▏ ~嘎 抓~ -- -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 220.133.25.171
