BA just released their position-by-position prospect rankings. The Rockies
did very well.
Chris Ianetta was the #5 overall catcher
Joe Koshansky was the #3 overall 1B
No Rockie 2B prospects were ranked in the top 10
Ian Stewart was the #7 overall 3B
It should be noted that each position was also given a "quality
ranking".....for example, 1B overall was 2 1/2 stars.....while 3B was
ranked 4 1/2 stars.
That means, Koshanksy was ranked 3rd overall 1B in a fairly weak crop of
minor league 1B compared to Stewart being ranked 7th in a very strong and
deep field of minor league 3B.
Anyway.....we'll continue:
Rockies did VERY well with their shortstops.
Tulo was #3
Jonathan Herrera was #7
Chris Nelson was #10
Centerfield was a "5 star" category so take Dexter Fowler's #10 ranking
with a grain of salt. He'll be moving up this ranking as he matures and
gets to the higher levels of the minors.
Rockies struck out when it came to the Top 10 corner OFers and Top 20 RH
starters.
Franklin Morales ranked #4 in LH starters
Rockies didn't have one of the top 5 closers (short list).
So of the 107 prospects listed, the Rockies had 8 of them.
That's pretty damn good if you ask me.
D-Backs had 9 prospects and the Dodgers have 8. San Fran only had 2 and
the Padres only had 1.
To say that the D-backs, Dodgers and Rockies had almost 25% of the
prospects listed is pretty crazy. NL West is gonna be fun for the next 5-7
years.
Not just that....but if you take the D-Backs, Dodgers, Rockies, D-Rays
(9)....(the 4 biggest results on the list)....those 4 account for about
1/3 of all the prospects listed.
