[情報] Rockies decline to exercise options for pitching trio
DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies announced on Wednesday that they have
declined to exercise the 2007 season options of right-handed pitchers
Jose Mesa, Mike DeJean and left-handed pitcher Ray King.
Mesa, 40, went 1-5 with a 3.86 ERA (72.1 ip, 31 er) in 79 relief
appearances for Colorado in 2006. He led the club's relievers in games,
losses, innings and holds (19), and ranked 2nd on the club with 26 games
finished. He established a career high for appearances in a season and
his 72.1 innings pitched were the most since 2002 with Philadelphia
(75.2 ip). The Dominican Republic native has posted a 78-106 career
record with a 4.27 ERA and 320 saves in 966 games/95 starts in parts
of 18 major league seasons with Baltimore (1987-92), Cleveland (1992-98),
San Francisco (1998), Seattle (1999-2000), Philadelphia (2001-03),
Pittsburgh (2004-05) and Colorado (2006).
DeJean, 36, appeared in just 2 games for Colorado in 2006 before suffering
a season-ending shoulder injury. He underwent successful right shoulder
surgery on June 14 to repair fraying in his right labrum and to clean out
his rotator cuff. Prior to the injury, DeJean went 1-0, tossing just 1.2
scoreless innings in his only action. A native of Louisiana, DeJean owns
a 30-33 record with a 4.30 ERA and 52 saves in 565 career games/one start.
He's played parts of 10 major league seasons with Colorado (1997-2000,
05-06), Milwaukee (2001-03), St. Louis (2003), Baltimore (2004) and
New York-NL (2004-05).
King, 32, went 1-4 with a 4.43 ERA (44.2 ip, 22 er) in 67 relief appearances.
He served as the club's primary left-handed setup man for most of the season
and ranked among the team leaders in holds (2nd, 15) and games (3rd), and
was tied for 2nd in relief losses. The southpaw is 19-22 with a 3.28 ERA
and 2 saves in 514 career relief appearances with Chicago-NL (1999),
Milwaukee (2000-02), Atlanta (2003), St. Louis (2004-05) and Colorado (2006).
