[官網] Rockies add Herges to bullpen mix
Relief corps competition gets tighter with righty's signing
DENVER -- The Rockies added to the late-innings bullpen competition on
Monday by signing right-hander Matt Herges to a Minor League contract
with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.
Herges, who turns 37 on April 1, spent last season with the Marlins, going
2-3 with a 4.31 ERA in 66 relief appearances, second most on the staff.
Herges went to Marlins camp as a non-roster player.
Should he appear in the Majors for the Rockies, he'll have completed the
National League West circuit, having thrown for the Dodgers (1999-2001),
Padres (2003), Giants (2003-05) and D-backs (2005). He also has pitched
for the Expos (2002) and is 32-29 with a 3.89 ERA in 444 appearances,
all but four in relief.
The Rockies signed free-agent right-hander LaTroy Hawkins during the
offseason and are hoping to add right-handed experience to the back of the
bullpen. In addition, the Rockies signed vets Danny Graves and Dave Veres.
