Has to regain command. RHP, Huston Street: Former All-Star closer for Oakland, sidelined by leg injuries last season. RHP, Taylor Buchholz: 2.17 ERA was sixth-lowest among NL relievers in 2008, fourth-best ever for Rockies reliever. RHP, Jason Grilli: Appeared in career-best 60 games, with career-low 3.00 ERA in 2008. RHP, Ryan Speier: Bounced between Rockies and Triple-A Colorado Springs three times in 2008. LHP, Alan Embree: Has appeared in at least 60 games each of past 10 seasons and 11 of the past 12. LHP, Glendon Rusch: Has split time between starting (72 games) and relieving (98 games) during the past five seasons. * On tap RHP, Ryan Mattheus: Led Double-A Tulsa with 17 saves, struck out 56 in 57 2/3 innings last season. RHP, Steven Register: Led Triple-A Colorado Springs with 16 saves last year after going to spring training with the Mets. RHP, Juan Morillo: Throwing strikes has been a challenge. 56 walks in 59 2/3 IP at Triple-A Colorado Springs last year. Hurdle's view "With Street and Corpas, we have two guys who have been big-league closers and had success. It will be a matter of the best man will move forward and the other will give us quality protection in the eighth. We have seen Corpas dominate during crunch time, and Street has been an All-Star. Buchholz has the challenge of staying strong for 162 games in his role. Embree has a track record that he is more than a left-on-left guy. "Grilli gives us a lot of flexibility. He can pitch multiple innings but also has a swing-and-miss pitch that can get you out of a late-inning jam. Speier keeps getting better and has a different arm slot. Rusch provides some versatility. He can pitch innings and can start, but we also gave him some left-on-left situations last year, which he handled well." Bottom line The Rockies have the most settled bullpen in their history. Street and Embree are the only new arms, and both have track records that build confidence.
