[情報] 2011 MLB.com's Top 50 Prospects: No. 33 Tyler Matzek
Tyler Matzek, LHP
2010 Rank: NR
Drafted: 2009, 1st (11th)
ETA in Majors: 2013
Statistically speaking:
The Rockies were cautious with Matzek, and he made just 18 starts.
One thing he was during that time was virtually unhittable. With the
exception of July, when hitters managed a .277 batting average against
the lefty, Matzek kept hitters under .200 in every month in which he pitched.
Scouting report:
Matzek has the potential to have four very usable pitches. His fastball is
a plus, up to the mid-90s. He's got a curve and a slider, with the former
better right now, and the latter with more potential. His changeup is behind
those pitches, but he's shown a feel for it and once he starts using it more,
it should improve. There's room for growth as he adds physical strength, and
he should improve his command as he gains more experience.
Upside potential: He has the chance to be a frontline starter.
They said it: "He's got dominant stuff. It was mostly his fastball. When he
gets it in the zone, and down in the zone, it's as good as you're going to
see anywhere, especially from the left side." -- Rockies assistant GM Bill
Geivett
He said it: "It wasn't so much nerves, but more like I was anxious to finally
go out there and start throwing to some batters. The first inning I knew I
was going to be real nervous, but then after that, I was fine." -- on his pro
debut
