Kansas City--For a second-string catcher, John Buck put on a first-rate
performance on Tuesday night.
Buck belted two home runs, including a grand slam, to carry the Royals over
the idians, 9-3, for their third straight victory at Kauffman Stadium.
Kansas City's 5-3 record put it alone atop the American League Central, edging
ahead of the rained-out White Sox.
After scoring a modest 18 runs in their first seven games, the Royals amassed
half that many runs in one night to entertain the 11,746 fans at the new-look
ballpark.
After showing a lot of firepower in Spring Training, most of the Rotals had
fizzled at bat when the bright lights went on. Not Buck, however. He sizzled,
and his two-homer, five-RBI game left him with a .500 (6-for-12) average,
three homers and eight RBIs in his three games.
