[新聞] Stiff right shoulder sidelines Farnsworth
KANSAS CITY -- Kyle Farnsworth was out of the Royals' bullpen picture on
Saturday night against Boston. In fact, he was told not to even pick up a
baseball.
Farnsworth has a stiff right shoulder, which developed on Friday night as he
was pitching out of a seventh-inning jam. It was two outs and out after seven
pitches.
"He's not scheduled to pick up a ball today," manager Trey Hillman said. "We
felt like he shut it down at a good time, so we're encouraged by that. He just
described it as stiffness. It really stiffened up on him between innings."
Hillman said the Royals are hoping that Farnsworth will not go on the disabled
list, but they'll need a roster spot when Gil Meche comes off the DL to pitch
Sunday against the Red Sox.
"I know we need a spot, but we also need healthy bullpen pitchers," Hillman
said. "It's a challenging decision here early on, but hopefully his body reacts
real good today and we can get him playing catch against tomorrow."
