[新聞] Oswalt?
The Royals are expected to meet with the agent for free-agent pitcher Roy
Oswalt during the general managers’ meetings, according to ESPN.com’s Jerry
Crasnick.
The meetings began today and conclude Wednesday in Milwaukee.
Oswalt, 34, is seeking a long-term contract, according to agent Bob Garber,
despite the possible limitations imposed by two degenerative disks in his
lower back. He became a free agent when Philadelphia opted not to exercise a
$16 million option for next season.
The desire for a long-term deal positions Oswalt as a long shot to sign with
the Royals, who believe they have several pitching prospects poised to
compete for big-league jobs over the next two years.
“We’re open-minded with everything,” general manager Dayton Moore said, “
but we don’t have a lot of (financial) flexibility. That’s because we’re
just not going to tie ourselves up unless it’s the right fit.”
The Phillies are still hoping to retain Oswalt, who went 9-10 with a 3.69 ERA
but made only 23 starts because of back problems. Washington, Arizona and the
New York Yankees are also showing interest.
Oswalt is a three-time All-Star in an 11-year career that began with 9½
seasons in Houston before a July 29, 2010 trade sent him to Philadelphia. He
is 159-93 with a 3.21 ERA in 339 career games.
