[新聞] Free agent Francis signs with Reds
KANSAS CITY -- Following one season with the Royals, left-hander Jeff Francis
is back with a National League team.
A free agent, Francis finalized a Minor League contract with the Cincinnati
Reds that included an invitation to Major League Spring Training. He agreed
to the deal on Jan. 25.
Francis made 31 starts with a 6-16 record and 4.82 ERA for the Royals last
season. He pitched 183 innings and issued only 39 walks. Although he notched
16 quality starts to tie Luke Hochevar for the team lead, Francis received
the second-lowest run support (3.9 runs per game) among Royals starters (Kyle
Davies' 3.2 was the lowest).
Francis signed with the Royals as a free agent after a seven-year stint with
the Colorado Rockies that included a 17-9 record in 2007 when they reached
the World Series. He missed the 2009 season because of left shoulder surgery.
He faces tough competition for the Reds' five-man rotation with six pitchers
already in the mix -- Johnny Cueto, Mat Latos, Bronson Arroyo, Homer Bailey,
Mike Leake and Aroldis Chapman.
