Eric Hosmer to the Outfield? Did I Miss a Meeting?
Now playing right field for the Royals, No. 35, Eric Hosmer.
What?
You heard right. That was Hosmer, the flashy first baseman, going to right
field in the seventh inning on Friday against the Dodgers.
Just a way to prepare for a just-in-case situation. Such as wanting to have
both Billy Butler and Hosmer in a game in a National League city where
there's no designated hitter, Butler's usual spot.
"I'm going to try to get him in right field or the outfield two or three
times this spring," manager Ned Yost said. "Just to have some experience out
there in case we get into interleague and it might be a necessity to have
both Billy's and Hoz's bats in the game. Somebody might be struggling and I
just don't want to throw him out there cold turkey."
So Hosmer took the right-field spot usually occupied by Jeff Francoeur and
caught a foul fly ball in the ninth inning of the Royals' 2-0 victory.
"I was waiting for one," Hosmer said. "I won't be a train wreck out there but
I wouldn't expect any catches like Frenchy or anything."
Left fielder Alex Gordon might also be seen at first base before camp breaks.
It's a position he's played 40 times in the Majors.
"We're going to play Gordy some at first, too, just because of that
situation. We're trying to just make sure we're covered," Yost said. "Just
trying to look down the road and see all the scenarios that could happen and
try to get guys time out there."
Hosmer今天上右外野..為了因應國聯沒有DH制.讓他跟逼霸能一起上
