Relief Pitchers This is the hard part for me because the Royals are already spending a fair amount on the back end of the bullpen of Luke Hochevar, Kelvin Herrera and Wade Davis (about $16 million for those three). Plus, they have young talent like Brian Flynn and some minor league arms like Scott Alexander and Miguel Almonte as well as Tim Collins coming back from Tommy John. Plus, it seems like they’re interested in signing Greg Holland to a similar deal like we discussed a couple months ago to pay for his rehab and then have him for a couple years after. I think you’re more likely to see the Royals go after some reclamation projects like they did last season to see what they can get out of them, but there’s been reports linking them to at least one high-dollar arm. Joe Blanton 吃回頭草?(略) Ernesto Frieri – From 2010-2013, Frieri struck out more than 12 batters per nine innings and had an ERA under 3.00. He has a 6.37 ERA the last two seasons. I’m not saying he’s the answer, but if the Royals can find a way to get him back to what he did before completely bombing, he could be a sixth inning answer for this team on a minor league deal or something similar. Jim Johnson – Johnson was having a nice bounceback year with the Braves, putting up a 2.25 ERA in 49 appearances. Then he got traded to the Dodgers and put up a 10.13 ERA in 23 games. I wouldn’t count on him for anything, but he could be the Ryan Madson pick up of 2016, if you’re looking for free agents. Ryan Madson 吃回頭草?(略) Franklin Morales 吃回頭草?(略) Darren O’Day – I can’t figure out why the Royals are in on him, but Jon Heyman says they are for now, so he has to be on the list. He’d be a fantastic add to an already great bullpen, but for the money he’ll be owed, I think the Royals can fill holes that are more important to fill, but hey, who am I to argue with the World Series champs? O’Day gets strikeouts, doesn ’t walk hitters and induces weak contact. He’s fantastic. Bobby Parnell – Yep, another reclamation project. Parnell put up a 2.79 ERA and 2.78 FIP from 2010 to 2013 before injuries and ineffectiveness made him a guy nobody would want. The Royals like to give minor league deals to guys like him if they see something in them that they think they can fix. They often do fix those things, so he could be worth a shot. Joakim Soria – I imagine Soria will get too many offers to be someone’s closer, but him coming back to Kansas City would be a pretty fantastic story. He’s not the guy he was with the Royals early on, but he’s still really good and would probably actually make Hochevar a fireman on this team. If the Royals were to sign him, I’d probably slot him in the eighth and let Hochevar and Herrera work when needed, so that would be pretty fun. Man, the pitching is tough to figure out because so many starters received qualifying offers, and the Royals just don’t need to spend on relievers. Still, they need a few pitchers, and I don’t think they can fill their open starting spot from within. I could see a trade happening to make this whole article moot, but the hot stove is too much fun to ignore all the possibilities. http://www.pinetarpress.com/royals-free-agent-targets-pitchers/ -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc), 來自: 180.176.162.163 ※ 文章網址: https://www.ptt.cc/bbs/Royals/M.1447335621.A.DB8.html
