Last week's article, Ex-Royals on other Major League rosters, got me to
wondering about ex-Royals no longer playing but working as coaches and
announcers around baseball. So I went ahead and started making a list.
It got long.
Here it is, though. Each player's years with the Royals are in parentheses.
I'm sure that there are more that I missed, let us know in the comments if
you know of any.
Sweet Lou Piniella (1969-73) is a studio analyst for Yankees games on the YES
network.
Orlando Cepeda (1974) is a community ambassador for the San Francisco Giants.
Jerry Cram (1969, 1976) is the pitching coach for the Class A Augusta
GreenJackets, in the Giants farm system.
Buck Martinez (1969-77) does play by play for Blue Jays games on SportsNet.
Cookie Rojas (1970-77) does color commentary for Marlins games on Fox Sports
Florida en Espanol.
Mark Littell (1973-77) is the assistant baseball coach for Dickinson State
University.
Dave Nelson (1976-77) is a studio analyst for Brewers games on Fox Sports
Wisconsin and also does radio commentary for select games on WTMJ.
Al Hrabosky, "The Mad Hungarian" (1978-79) does color commentary for
Cardinals games on Fox Sports Midwest.
Eddie Rodriguez (1979) is the infield coordinator for the San Diego Padres.
Steve Busby (1972-80) does play by play for Rangers games on Fox Sports
Southwest.
Vida Blue (1982-83) is a studio analyst for Giants games on Comcast SportsNet
Bay Area.
Steve Balboni (1984-88) is a scout for the San Francisco Giants and runs the
Steve Balboni Baseball School in New Jersey.
Ted Power (1988) is the pitching coach for the AAA Louisville Bats in the
Cincinnati Reds system.
Luis de los Santos (1988-89) is a coach for the Dominican Summer League
Brewers.
Frank White (1973-90) is the first base coach for the Kansas City T-Bones.
Pat Tabler, "Mr. Clutch" (1988-90) does color commentary for Blue Jays games
on SportsNet.
Bob Boone (1989-90) is a vice president and senior advisor to the GM of the
Washington Nationals. Impressive.
Kevin Seitzer (1986-91) is the hitting coach for the Atlanta Braves.
Sean Berry (1990-91) is the hitting coach for the AAA Norfolk Tides in the
Orioles system.
Kirk Gibson (1991) does color commentary for Fox Sports Detroit.
Bobby Moore (1991) is the hitting coach for the A Rome Braves.
Carmelo Martinez (1991) is the manager of the Mesa Cubs.
Gary Thurman (1987-92) is the outfield and baserunning coordinator for player
development for the Washington Nationals.
Scott Bailes (1993) is the co-announcer for the AA Springfield Cardinals on
Ozarks CW. He also does color commentary on select games for the Cleveland
Indians.
Brian McRae (1990-94) is the general manager of the KC Sluggers youth
baseball organization. He is also an instructor with the Toronto Blue Jays
baseball academy.
David Cone (1986, 1993-95) does color commentary on select Yankees series on
the YES network.
Gary Gaetti, "The Rat" (1993-95) is the manager of the independent Sugarland
Skeeters.
Wally Joyner (1992-95) is the hitting coach for the Detroit Tigers.
Juan Samuel (1992, 1995) is the first base coach for the Philadelphia

Tim Belcher (1996-98) is doing radio color commentary on select games for the

Ricky Bones (1997-98) is a bullpen coach for the New York Mets.
Hal Morris (1998) is the director of pro scouting for the Los Angeles Angels.
Glendon Rusch (1997-99) is the pitching coach for the Class A Lake Elsinore
Storm in the Padres organization.
Larry Sutton (1997-99) is the minor league hitting coordinator for the
Pittsburgh Pirates.
Steve Scarsone (1999) is the manager of the AA Nashville Sounds in the A's
system.
Ricky Bottalico (2000) is a studio analyst for Phillies games on Comcast
SportsNet Philadelphia.
Sal Fasano (1996-99, 2001) is the player development pitching coordinator for
the Toronto Blue Jays. Yes, pitching.
Gregg Zaun (2000-01) is a studio analyst for Blue Jays games on SportsNet.
Mark Quinn (1999-02) is an assistant hitting coach for the Baltimore Orioles.
You read that correctly.
Dan Reichert (1999-02) is the pitching coach for the independent Lincoln
Saltdogs.
Luis Ordaz (2000-02) is the hitting coach for the Class A Hagerstown Suns in
the Washington Nationals farm system.
Paul Byrd (2001-02) does color commentary, field reporting, and studio
analysis for Braves games on Fox Sports South.
Carlos Febles (1998-2003) is the manager of the AA Portland Sea Dogs in the
Boston Red Sox system.
Paul Abbot (2003) is the pitching coach for the Class A Salem Red Sox.
Morgan Burkhart (2003) is the hitting coach for the AAA El Paso Chihuahuas in
the Padres system.
Gookie Dawkins (2003) is the hitting coach for the Advanced A Daytona
