Catchers Meibrys Viloria and Chase Vallot, first baseman Samir Duenez, and
pitcher Miguel Almonte headline the players the Royals will send to the
Instructional League, according to Baseball America. The roster is made up of
players mostly from lower level teams in Lexington, Burlington, and Idaho
Falls, although Almonte sticks out as a player from the upper levels. Almonte
struggled mightily in 2016 with a 5.92 ERA and was demoted from AAA Omaha to
AA Northwest Arkansas and sent to the bullpen.
Viloria demolished the Pioneer League this year, hitting .376/.436/.606 with
six home runs in 58 games for Idaho Falls. Vallot, a supplemental round pick
in 2014 out of high school, is one of the best power bats in the system with
13 home runs in 82 games for Lexington this year.
The players will work out at the Royals practice facility in Surprise,
Arizona. Other top prospects include infielders Marten Gasparini and Nicky
Lopez, first baseman Chris Devito, outfielders Anderson Miller, Kort
Peterson, Amalani Fukofuka, and pitchers Pedro Fernandez, Cristian Castillo,
and Scott Blewett.
The league is not to be confused with the Arizona Fall League, a
developmental league for players close to Major League-ready. The
Instructional League is for players in the lower minors to give them a chance
to hone their skills. Most notably, Tim Tebow is in the Instructional League
for the Mets. Games are usually a controlled environment meant to develop
certain skills for players.
Almonte真的要加油...
