Jason Adam is sent down The Royals have called up right-handed pitcher Jake Newberry from AAA Omaha and have optioned down pitcher Jason Adam. The 23-year old Newberry had allowed just two earned runs in 20 innings of work for the Storm Chasers, for an ERA of 0.90. He had 16 strikeouts and six walks allowed, and opponents were hitting just .191/.263/.250 against him. Newberry began the year at AA Northwest Arkansas where he had a 2.12 ERA in 29 2/3 innings with 37 strikeouts and just six unintentional walks. Newberry was originally a 37th-round selection in the 2012 draft out of Mira Mesa High School in San Diego. According to Baseball Census, Newberry throws a fastball that barely hits the 90s, along with a slider and changeup, and “hides the ball well and lets it get on hitters quicker than what radar gun readings would have them believe.” Jason Adam gave up a pair of three-run home runs in Kjoiansas City’s 9-3 loss to Chicago last night, admitting he “just let probably the emotions” get to him. Adam had a 6.12 ERA in 32 1/3 innings with the Royals wil nine home runs allowed. Newberry will be added to the 40-man roster, which had an opening after the release of Blaine Boyer. Boyer cleared waivers today and is now a free agent.
