Johnson doubts Lions role
Martin Johnson doubts he will make himself available for the Lions tour
to New Zealand next summer, although has not entirely ruled out the
possibility.
The 34-year-old lock has captained the last two Lions tours, and coach
Clive Woodward has declared he would consider players retired from the
Test arena.
"Going to New Zealand is not in my plans but anything is possible," said
Johnson. "But as it stands I doubt it.
"I've not really thought about it - it's not on my current radar."
Speculation has risen over Johnson's possible involvement after Woodward's
declaration that "everyone is available".
Former Test scrum-halves Rob Howley (Wales) and Bryan Redpath (Scotland)
are among those who have indicated their desire to be involved.
Johnson ended his international career in January after steering England
to World Cup glory but agreed a new deal for the coming season with Leicester.
"I don't know whether this will be my last year," he added.
"I feel alright at the moment but I'm not making any decisions right now.
"The club will have to know at some stage of the season what I intend to
do and I'll tell them."
