Lomu has kidney transplant
All Blacks legend Jonah Lomu underwent a kidney transplant in Auckland,
New Zealand, on Tuesday. He has been suffering from a kidney disorder since
1996.
"It is too early to comment on the success of the transplant," said his
doctor John Mayhew.
Lomu received a kidney from a live donor after 10 years of dealing with a
serious kidney disorder.
The 29-year-old has not played for a year but has said that if the operation
is a success he wants to try and make the 2007 World Cup.
"Surgeons confirm that the operation went according to plan and Jonah is in
a stable condition," said Mayhew.
"We do not expect to be in position to comment on the success of the
transplant for at least three months, at which time we will have a better
picture of how Jonah's new kidney is functioning."
Lomu was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome in 1996, although the winger
continued playing for the All Blacks until 2002.

Lomu out of hospital
Former All Blacks winger Jonah Lomu has left hospital, six days after
undergoing a kidney transplant.
Lomu, who has suffered from the kidney disorder nephrotic syndrome, received
the kidney from an anonymous donor, thought to be a friend.
His spokeswoman, Bridget Abernethy, said the player had surprised doctors
with his speedy recovery.
"He is resting comfortably at his Auckland home and is happy to be out of
hospital," Abernethy said.
It will be a number of weeks before doctors can say whether the transplant
has been a success.
