Too close to call Shanu Phillips Rugby union chiefs will decide the fate of Malbourne's super 14 push before the Bracks Government decides if it will build a new stadium to house the team. One Dec. 10 the Australian Rugby Union will pick either Melbourne or Perth to jion an expanded Super12 competition in 2006. Melbourne's case is strong, but rugby insiders say the city is not over the line. "It's very close, but Perth might just be ahead," one independent source said. "They're the ones with the government support." The West Australian Government has promised $25 million to rebuild Mebers Equity Oval- if the ARU amkes the right decision. The Victorian Rugby Union has lobbied the Bracks Government for similar commitment at Olympic Park.
