Giants walk off with Winn over Atlanta
Niekro's homer sparks comeback victory over Braves
By Rich Draper / MLB.com
SAN FRANCISCO -- Randy Winn blooped a single into short right field in the
ninth inning, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 6-5 victory over the
Atlanta Braves on Sunday at AT&T Park.
Lance Niekro slammed his first homer of the season in the bottom of the ninth
to knot the game at 5, and Pedro Feliz singled off reliever Chris Reitsma
prior to Winn's game-winning blow, which came after an intentional walk to
pinch-hitter Steve Finley.
The winning pitcher was reliever Tim Worrell (1-0), while Reitsma (0-1) took
the loss.
A three-run homer by Andruw Jones in the sixth and Edgar Renteria's seventh-
inning RBI double were the key hits in boosting the Braves to a 5-4 lead
entering the ninth.
Braves starter John Smoltz gave up four runs in the second inning but held
the Giants to six hits overall in seven innings, while San Francisco starter
Jason Schmidt struck out 10 batters and walked five over seven frames.
