Bonds hits No. 713, but Giants fall
San Francisco unable to salvage finale in Philadelphia
By Rich Draper / MLB.com
PHILADELPHIA -- Barry Bonds crushed a 450-foot homer off the right-field
facade in the sixth inning at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday night, marking his
713th career blast, but San Francisco took a 9-5 loss to the Phillies, who won
their eighth straight game.
The Giants have dropped four consecutive games and are 1-7 in their last eight
contests.
Bonds' homer was off winning pitcher Jon Lieber (2-4), who gave up four runs
over seven innings and also allowed a solo shot to Mark Sweeney in the second
frame.
San Francisco starter Matt Morris (2-3) allowed five runs in the first two
innings, including a two-run homer by Pat Burrell. Morris is now winless in
his last five outings.
