Giants cruise to victory over Astros
Wright gets first win vs. Houston; no homer for Bonds
By Gene Duffey / Special to MLB.com
HOUSTON -- Barry Bonds didn't hit a home run again Tuesday night, but the San
Francisco Giants hit the Houston Astros for the second night in a row. Hard.
Omar Vizquel drove in four runs and the Giants scored 11 times in the first
four innings to pound Houston, 14-3, at Minute Maid Park.
Right-hander Jamey Wright, winless in all 12 of his decisions against Houston,
pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs to improve to 4-3.
Bonds went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and was hit by a pitch in the fifth
by reliever Russ Springer, who was ejected along with Houston manager Phil
Garner. Springer, who threw five straight inside pitches to Bonds in the
at-bat, had been warned by home-plate umpire Joe West after throwing the first
pitch of the inning behind Bonds.
The Giants, who scored eight runs in the first three innings of Monday's 10-1
triumph, scored five in the first inning Tuesday night.
Randy Winn walked to open the game and, after a strikeout, the Giants touched
Houston left-hander Wandy Rodriguez (5-2) for five consecutive singles,
including a RBI liner to right by Bonds.
San Francisco finished off Rodriguez and Houston with a five-run fourth,
highlighted by a bases-loaded triple by Vizquel. Pedro Feliz hit a solo homer
in the seventh for the Giants, his eighth.
