Feliz delivers winning blow for Giants
Cain gets win after allowing one run in 5 2/3 innings
By Tony Kuttner / Special to MLB.com
SAN FRANCISCO -- Matt Cain and a supporting cast of relievers limited Colorado
to just four hits in the Giants' 4-1 win over the Rockies on Saturday.
With the win, the Giants grabbed sole possession of third place in the
National League West and stayed 3 1/2 games back of the Diamondbacks.
Cain (3-5) started well, striking out the side in the top of the first. He
kept the Rockies hitless until Garrett Atkins doubled with one out in the
fourth.
But Cain struggled with his command, and walked five in 5 2/3 innings.
He gave way first to Jeremy Accardo, who pitched two scoreless innings, then
Steve Kline, who got the final out of the eighth.
Finally, Armando Benitez came on to close the ninth and picked up his third
save of the year, and first since May 8.
The Giants took a 1-0 lead in the third when Mike Matheny doubled, moved to
third on a groundout and came home on a Randy Winn ground ball that went
through shortstop Clint Barmes for an error.
The Rockies tied the game on JD Closser's RBI single in the fourth, but San
Francisco responded in the bottom half with a two-run triple by Pedro Feliz.
The Giants added another run in the sixth and chased Rockies starter Josh Fogg
(3-3) when left fielder Eli Marrero misplayed a Feliz single, allowing Ray
Durham to come home from second.
