Giants' Morris too crafty for Dodgers
Right-hander pitches into eighth inning to earn victory
By Chris Haft / MLB.com
LOS ANGELES -- Lengthening San Francisco's Major League-high winning streak to
six games Tuesday night, the Giants outlasted the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-3.
The decision also ended the Dodgers' eight-game winning streak against San
Francisco. It was the fourth-longest winning streak for either team in the
historic rivalry.
Matt Morris (3-0) cruised through seven innings, allowing one run and three
hits, before yielding a pair of seventh-inning runs. Jack Taschner escaped a
jam by forcing an inning-ending double-play grounder from Luis Gonzalez.
Armando Benitez allowed a pair of ninth-inning singles but emerged with his
fifth save in as many opportunities.
Dave Roberts singled and scored a first-inning run to open the Giants' scoring
and added a fifth-inning homer, his first round-tripper in 389 at-bats dating
from last May 26.
Randy Winn went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.
