Sanchez stumbles in loss to Brewers
Starter fans eight batters; Molina clubs Giants' first homer
By Chris Haft / MLB.com
MILWAUKEE -- Jonathan Sanchez allowed three first-inning runs Friday and the
deficit continued to grow as the Giants absorbed a 13-4 defeat at the hands
of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Milwaukee's Bill Hall drove in a career-high six runs with a two-run homer in
the first, a three-run homer in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth. The
Brewers scored five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to make the game
a rout.
Sanchez (0-1) struck out a career-high eight but couldn't sustain his best
stuff. He allowed seven runs and seven hits while lasting four batters into
the fifth inning.
Brewers starter Carlos Villanueva (1-0), who began his professional career in
the Giants organization before being traded to Milwaukee with another Minor
Leaguer for pitchers Wayne Franklin and Leo Estrella on March 30, 2004,
surrendered two runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Bengie Molina hit the Giants' first home run of the season in the seventh
inning, connecting for a two-run clout off Salomon Torres.
