Giant homers back Linceum in win
Molina, Castillo go deep; righty dominates Diamondbacks
By Chris Haft / MLB.com
PHOENIX -- Bengie Molina, the National League's reigning Player of the Week,
maintained his torrid pace with a three-run, third-inning homer that sparked
the Giants to a 6-3 victory Tuesday over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Molina's sixth home run of the season backed Tim Lincecum (7-1), who allowed
one run and four hits in seven innings. The Giants improved to 6-0 when
Lincecum starts after a defeat. He's personally 5-0 in those situations.
Facing Dan Haren (5-4), who had won his last four decisions against San
Francisco, the Giants struck in the third when Fred Lewis singled and Ray
Durham walked with one out. Molina, batting with two outs, drove Haren's 1-2
pitch an estimated 394 feet into the left-field seats.
Molina went 2-for-4, after a week in which he led the Major Leagues by
hitting .652 (15-for-23), compiling a .654 on-base percentage and amassing 15
hits and six doubles.
The Giants widened their lead to 5-0 on Jose Castillo's fourth-inning homer
and Ray Durham's fifth-inning RBI double, which followed Lewis' leadoff
single. Arizona scored in its half of the fifth on Chris Young's two-out
single, but the Giants countered with Aaron Rowand's two-out RBI single in
the seventh.
Lincecum was pulled after putting two D-backs on with one out in the eighth,
and reliever Tyler Walker allowed both to score on a double and a wild pitch.
