[新聞] Giants sign IF Uribe to minor league deal
SAN FRANCISCO (TICKER) —The San Francisco Giants on Thursday signed veteran
infielder Juan Uribe to a minor league contract and invited him to spring
training.
After parting ways with ageless shortstop Omar Vizquel earlier in the offseason
and signing Edgar Renteria to play shortstop, the Giants were still without a
veteran presence to play second or third base.
Uribe, 29, could serve as a bridge to youngsters Emmanuel Burriss, Brian Bocock,
Connor Gillaspie, Pablo Sandoval, Kevin Fransden and Eugenio Velez if he makes
the team.
The Dominican Uribe hit .247 with seven homers and 40 RBI in 110 games with the
Chicago White Sox last season while logging time at third base, second base and
shortstop. He is a .253 career hitter with 111 homers in seven seasons with the
White Sox and Colorado Rockies.
