Bochy noted that Monday's scheduled off-day would allow the Giants to stick temporarily with the four-man contingent they used this week following Barry Zito's right foot injury, since each starter still would receive four days' rest. The Giants wouldn't need a fifth starter until April 30 at Washington. But Bochy indicated that if the Giants can avoid using Vogelsong excessively in relief, as they did Friday when he pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings, they'll resume using a five-man rotation sooner than later. "We'd like to give guys an extra day [of rest]," Bochy said. Vogelsong, a non-roster invitee to Spring Training, has allowed three hits without walking a batter in 4 2/3 shutout innings spanning two appearances. Torres, Casilla headed for rehab in Arizona SAN FRANCISCO -- Manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that outfielder Andres Torres and right-hander Santiago Casilla will intensify rehabilitation of their respective injuries at the Giants' training complex in Scottsdale, Ariz., while the team is on its upcoming three-city, 10-game trip. This plan eliminates any possibility that Torres, the Giants' Opening Day center fielder and leadoff hitter who's nursing a strained left Achiiles tendon, will be activated from the 15-day disabled list when he's eligible next Monday. "I think he's still a little ways away," Bochy said of Torres, who has resumed hitting and light running. Casilla threw 20 fastballs in the bullpen Friday, marking the first time he had thrown off a mound since he went on the disabled list April 6 with an inflamed throwing elbow. Bochy said that both Torres and Casilla might participate in extended spring training games during their Arizona stint. Chris Haft is a reporter for MLB.com.
