http://0rz.tw/wJXAp Vogelsong to start for Giants on Thursday By Chris Haft / MLB.com | 04/26/11 9:10 PM ET PITTSBURGH -- Giants manager Bruce Bochy on Tuesday added Ryan Vogelsong to the starting rotation, which will give the other four starters an extra day of rest. Vogelsong will join the rotation for Thursday's series finale against the Pirates, between Madison Bumgarner's start on Wednesday and Tim Lincecum's anticipated outing in Friday's series opener at Washington. Vogelsong remained in San Francisco's bullpen on Tuesday as a precautionary measure due to the possibility of rain. "With the weather as far as [rain], you don't know when you're going to pull a guy," Bochy said. Vogelsong is unscored upon in two relief appearances spanning 4 2/3 innings. Pirates' Bowker reflects on time with Giants PITTSBURGH -- John Bowker might become the answer to a trivia question (Who was the Giants' Opening Day right fielder in their 2010 World Series championship season?), but that doesn't bother him. Free from bitterness over being traded by the Giants to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Bowker said that he watched nearly every pitch of last year's World Series on television -- and his heart remained with his former teammates. "Looking back, I wish I was there with the guys playing, but it was kind of out of my control," Bowker said Tuesday. "I definitely was rooting for them. It was awesome for the city and for the fans who waited a long time for it." In a sense, Bowker contributed directly to the Giants' title-winning effort. He and right-hander Joe Martinez were dealt to Pittsburgh at last year's Trade Deadline for left-hander Javier Lopez, who became an integral part of San Francisco's bullpen. Bowker's final successor in right field, Cody Ross, became a postseason hero by being named Most Valuable Player in the National League Championship Series. Bowker will receive a World Series ring -- he believes he'll receive it when the Pirates visit San Francisco in August -- and he was voted a partial postseason share by his ex-teammates. Bowker, who played first base and the outfield corners from 2008-2010 with the Giants, has been limited mostly to pinch-hitting with Pittsburgh. Entering Tuesday, the 27-year-old Sacramento native was the Major Leagues' most frequently used pinch-hitter, having gone 4-for-15 with a walk in 16 appearances. "I'm looking at it as a good thing," Bowker said. "I'm in there pretty much every day, getting an at-bat." Zito to visit foot specialist on Wednesday PITTSBURGH -- Left-hander Barry Zito is scheduled to visit Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte, N.C., on Wednesday to have the noted foot and ankle specialist examine his sprained right foot. Zito said that Dr. Anderson, who also was consulted by Emmanuel Burriss after the Giants infielder fractured his left foot, might be able to offer a more accurate estimate regarding how long he'll be sidelined. Zito hurt himself April 16 at Arizona and now wears a walking boot instead of a cast on his injured foot, since there's less need for complete immobilization. Zito, who is missing starts due to injury for the first time in his career, said that he's trying to stay as active as possible to facilitate his return. For example, though he hasn't resumed throwing, he's maintaining his exercise routine with his shoulders so his body will readjust more quickly once he resumes throwing.
