Filippo Volandri, Ivan Ljubicic and Mario Ancic took time out from this month's
ATP training camp in Monte Carlo to meet young fans at the annual children's
Christmas party at the Monte-Carlo Country Club. The players answered questions
and autographed t-shirts and cards for the youngsters.
The three-week training camp began this week and will continue through December
22. Monte Carlo residents like Ljubicic, Ancic and Thomas Johansson are regular
attendees and are likely to participate on most days. Other players elect just
to attend for a week or so as they prepare for the start of the 2008 ATP season
on December 31.
Leading players Novak Djokovic and Tomas Berdych, who also are Monte-Carlo
residents, are among the list of attendees, as are Jonas Bjorkman, Andreas
Seppi, George Bastl, Jean-Rene Lisnard and Sergei Bubka Jr.
Although the Monte-Carlo Country Club is best known for its clay courts, the
players are practising on the club's hard courts. Players also have access to
the club's new state-of-the-art gymnasium, masseur, and the nearby Monte-Carlo
track and field club for general aerobic conditioning.
The unseasonally mild weather is also a bonus for players, who are relishing
the chance to practice outdoors by the sea.
