Frame 24: Once again, O'Sullivan gets in after a spell of safety, and he wins
this one courtesy of a 61 break to end a disastrous session for the Scot. Dott
knows he needs a miracle to come back from this.
O'Sullivan 16-8 Dott
Frame 23: O'Sullivan gets a chance after Dott misses a red. A break of 46
follows, and although it breaks down, Dott cannot take advantage, and a
further break of 32 seals the frame for O'Sullivan, who is getting close
to the finish line.
O'Sullivan 15-8 Dott
Frame 22: Dott's hopes are hanging by a thread as The Rocket gets yet another
frame. O'Sullivan makes a 62 break and has now taken 14 of the last 17 frames
and seems to be racing towards the title.
O'Sullivan 14-8 Dott
Frame 21: A good start from Dott as he sinks another textbook long red and
builds a 43-0 lead. But he subsequently mis-hits a safety and O'Sullivan
comes in, makes a 85 clearance and moves five frames clear.
O'Sullivan 13-8 Dott
Frame 20: A potentially pivotal frame. Dott is among the points and looking
comfortable as he builds a break. But he plays a black with far too much power
and sends it bouncing out of the jaws and off the table. A chance to close the
deficit to two is gone as O'Sullivan comes in and makes it 12-8 at the interval.
O'Sullivan 12-8 Dott
Frame 19: Dott stops the rot in a curious frame. An outrageous fluke puts the
Scot in, then O'Sullivan snookers himself on the colours after going into the
pack on his first red. But Dott gets the first chance to build a break and his
brilliant 106 - only his second ton of the tournament - is enough to keep him
in contention.
O'Sullivan 11-8 Dott
Frame 18: Five reds and five blacks from O'Sullivan, and hopes start to rise
of another great maximum. But The Rocket misses a straightforward sixth red,
and the chance is over. It is still ominous for Dott, though, as he fails to
capitalise and O'Sullivan takes his fifth frame in a row.
O'Sullivan 11-7 Dott
Frame 17: It is a tentative opening, and eight minutes pass before a ball is
potted. O'Sullivan is first among the points with a 41 break. He follows up
with a 30 and increases his lead to three.
O'Sullivan 10-7 Dott
Frame 16: Although Dott has done far better than anyone expected to be within
two frames of O'Sullivan at the end of session two, there are some ominous
signs. O'Sullivan wins the last of the day courtesy of modest breaks of 33
and 36, which means nine of the last 11 have gone his way.
O'Sullivan 9-7 Dott
Frame 15: O'Sullivan moves ahead for the first time in the match. A break of
33 ends suddenly, but despite a brilliant red, Dott fails to take advantage
- and O'Sullivan soon seals victory.
O'Sullivan 8-7 Dott
Frame 14: Dott looks set fair to take the frame, but he misses a red, and
O'Sullivan moves on to make a 56 break. That does not win the frame in itself,
but O'Sullivan triumphs in a nervous battle in the colours and is level again.
O'Sullivan 7-7 Dott
Frame 13: A great return after the interval from the Scot. Displaying more of
the immaculate long potting which has characterised his play so far, he builds
a fine break of 86 to take the frame and regain the lead.
O'Sullivan 6-7 Dott
Frame 12: There are some ominous signs for Dott as, after grinding out the
previous frame, O'Sullivan rattles in a rapid, frame-winning break of 78 in
under seven minutes to draw level at the mid-session interval.
O'Sullivan 6-6 Dott
Frame 11: With Dott leading 47-41, the two players become involved in a
high-quality exchange of safety with one red left. O'Sullivan escapes when
Dott fails to take a chance that the Rocket inadvertently leaves, and the
Scot ends up losing the frame.
O'Sullivan 5-6 Dott
Frame 10: A brilliant long red by Dott seemingly puts him on his way to the
frame. But he misses an easy pink to give O'Sullivan a glimmer of a chance.
However, the Rocket misses a red, and another fine long pot from Dott clinches
it.
O'Sullivan 4-6 Dott
Frame nine: A solid start from O'Sullivan who is soon among the points and
makes a high-quality 56 break. The point-scoring breaks down, but Dott is
unable to get off the mark, and another 30 break seals the frame.
O'Sullivan 4-5 Dott
Frame eight: O'Sullivan breathes a sigh of relief as he clinches his third
frame in a row to narrow the gap to two - but the Rocket is indebted to a
big slice of luck as he flukes a red at 24-0 up. Nevertheless, he takes full
advantage, rattling in a 63 break to end the session 3-5 down.
O'Sullivan 3-5 Dott
Frame seven: O'Sullivan gets the better of Dott as, for the first time, the
Scot starts missing his shots. A relatively straightforward red to the corner
is left in the jaws and O'Sullivan takes the frame to reduce the gap to three.
O'Sullivan 2-5 Dott
Frame six: O'Sullivan finally cuts loose. He gets a decent break of the pack
and rattles in a typically quickfire 100 - his 13th century of the tournament
- to pull one back.
O'Sullivan 1-5 Dott
Frame five: O'Sullivan's brow is furrowed as Dott guarantees himself a
first-session lead with his fifth frame in a row. And it is entirely justified
- the Scot has played like a world champion in the making, missing almost
nothing. O'Sullivan has now gone three frames since potting a ball.
O'Sullivan 0-5 Dott
Frame four: No-one would have predicted this interval scoreline but Dott
thoroughly deserves his lead after some impeccable snooker. He has already
won as many frames against O'Sullivan as Stephen Hendry managed in his
semi-final.
O'Sullivan 0-4 Dott
Frame three: Dott is making a mockery of the odds which had him 20/1 to win
before the match. He is showing a clinical edge to match O'Sullivan's
ruthlessness against Hendry, and breaks of 43 and 64 put the Scot 3-0 up.
O'Sullivan 0-3 Dott
Frame two: Another splendid break, this time 77, from Dott - who is showing
no signs of nerves whatsoever - and the Scot is two frames up.
O'Sullivan 0-2 Dott
Frame one: A typically tentative opening from both players but - to most
people's surprise - it is Dott who takes first blood, taking full advantage
when O'Sullivan misses a simple brown to make a 71 break. O'Sullivan
surprisingly returns to the table needing five snookers, presumably to get
some cueing practice.
O'Sullivan 0-1 Dott
