Moya, Coria to Meet in Final
Carlos Moya looking for his 12th ATP title as he faces 21-year-old Coria of
Argentina.
Carlos Moya won a tight tiebreak against Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten on
Saturday and cruised from there to win 7-6(8), 6-1 and move into the final of
the Copa AT&T in Buenos Aires for the second time in his career. After losing
to Gustavo Kuerten the first four times they played, Carlos Moya has now won
three of the past four matches against the former World No. 1 and three-time
Roland Garros champion.
In the days' first semifinal, a battle of Argentine's saw 21-year-old
Guillermo Coria defeat 24-year-old Gaston Gaudio in three sets in front of
the vocal Argentine fans. The last time these two played was two years ago
at this very tournament, where Gaudio came away with a win in the
quarterfinal. In the only ATP title won by Coria, he defeated Gaudio in the
final at Vina del Mar in 2001.
WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID:
Guillermo Coria: "I started very well in the first set and did
what I had to do. In the second set, I think I was just taking it easy, but in
the third set I was solid and concentrated and going for my shots."
"There was a lot of emotion in that match, the second time I've felt this much
emotion during the week."
"I'm always trying to attack with my game. Matches with other Argentinians are
always so close because we know each other's games so well."
"My right foot problem is OK right now."
Carlos Moya: "I wasn't so comfortable in the first set, and Guga
was serving very hard, but I played as close to perfection as my game can play
in the second set. It was my best level of tennis so far."
"Yesterday the court was heavy and to win this kind of match [against Horna]
really gave me a lot of confidence going into this match."
"I'm not too worried about the final against Coria tomorrow. Even though the
crowd will be with him, I have eight years of experience with this and I hope
the crowd will be a little bit with me too, because I love Buenos Aires and
Argentina."
on being friends with Guga Kuerten
"Even 10 years after we retire from tennis I will be friends the Guga and that
is not something I can say about every tennis player."
