Juan Carlos Ferrero blunted the serving power of Dutchman Martin Verkerk to win his first Grand Slam singles title at Roland Garros Sunday. Ferrero, the beaten finalist last year and back-to-back semifinalist in 2000-'01, defeated Verkerk 6-1, 6-3, 6-2. It was the most one-sided Roland Garros final since Bjorn Borg defeated Guillermo Vilas 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 in 1978. Ferrero, who did not allow Verkerk to win consecutive service games throughout the match, committed just 31 unforced errors during the match - half that of Verkerk, who put just 46 per cent of first serves into play. The Spaniard finished the clay court season with a 28-2 record on the surface and with the recognition as the game's best clay court player. The 23-year-old surges to first place in the ATP Champions Race and has almost certainly booked his ticket to the Tennis Masters Cup (held this year in Houston, Texas) for the third consecutive year. Ferrero was presented with the Coupe de Musketeers by Yannick Noah on the 20th anniversary of the Frenchman's Roland Garros triumph. "I am so happy. It's unbelievable," he said. "I came here when I was 12 years old and saw Lendl and Bruguera and I started to think that I wanted to win this tournament. Eleven years later that's it and I'm very happy. "I returned so well. I put pressure on all his service games. I think he only won two or three games easily. "I will try to play Wimbledon. I want to go there. I think I can play well there. I will go there and enjoy it." 蚊子，Go！:P Verkerk, who defeated Carlos Moya and Guillermo Coria in the quarterfinals and semifinals, said: "I never expected to stand here [at the trophy presentation]. All I can say is that Juan Carlos deserved to win - he played unbelievable. He's a great champion. "He runs you all over the court and you have to try to overpower him but my serve wasn't working today. Maybe I tried to overserve a little bit, but you have to do that against Ferrero. "It's like a dream [to make the final] and it will be like that for a few weeks."
