Top Seeds Claim Doubles Title
Top seeds Virginia Ruano-Pascual and Paolo Suarez defeated second seeds
Nadia Petrova and Meghann Shaughnessy 7-6(3), 6-1 to clinch the women's
doubles title.
Ruano Pascual/Suarez won their 28th Sony Ericsson WTA Tour doubles title
as a team, the 31st overall for Ruano Pascual and 38th for Suarez. It was
only their third pairing for 2005, with a leg injury delaying Suarez's start
to the season.
They won their last event in Dubai on the eve of the Pacific Life Open and
have won their past nine matches
Petrova/Shaughnessy, winners of last year's Season-Ending Championships
doubles title, were playing together for the first time in 2005. They were
due to be seeded No.1 at the Australian Open, but Shaughnessy was forced to
withdraw due to a right shin injury. As a team they have won eight titles,
including seven in 2004
