The playoff seedings were set in the Eastern Conference after Monday’s
games, although nothing is settled in the Western Conference.

But New Orleans’ unexpected home loss to Utah Monday night dropped them into
eighth place in the West, half a game behind Memphis.

The Hornets are presumed to be the weakest of the eight playoff teams without
scoring leader David West, who is out for the playoffs with a left knee

Clippers on Wednesday to avoid the Spurs.

And New York wrapped up the No. 6 seed when Orlando claimed a 95-85 victory
over Philadelphia, which will now become the No. 7 seed.

We now know the first-round playoff matchups in the East.

Wednesday)
No. 4 Orlando vs. No. 5 Atlanta (Atlanta won 3-1)
Those teams can begin planning for their first-round opponents.
The teams in the West aren’t nearly as fortunate — at least through Monday’
s games.
