An ankle injury that pained him last season all the way through the NBA Finals turned into a right plantar fascia injury that has made this season insufferable. Duncan initially figured the injury slowly would heal, but as the weeks of the season went on, the pain continued, and Duncan struggled as a result, shying from certain shots and losing some aggressiveness. Despite the injury, Duncan missed just two games, neither because of the foot problem, and he has tried several different ways to help it. Duncan has used anti-inflammatory injections and shockwave therapy. He had Adidas design a shoe that uses a microchip to evaluate the kind of support his foot requires. He also wears a splint at night to keep his foot extended, and he hasn't talked about any discomfort for weeks. That means Duncan, and in turn his Spurs, might be getting healthy at just the right time. SPURS HERO While Duncan continues to improve, Brent Barry turned out to be the hero as the Spurs escaped the Kings in Game 2 of their playoff series. Barry hit a corner three-pointer that sent the game into overtime - a shot that bounced high off the rim before finally falling through. Ironically, it was Barry who was nearly dealt at the trade deadline (Spurs coach Gregg Popovich actually told Barry he had been traded) to New Orleans for J.R. Smith and Arvydas Macijauskas in a San Antonio attempt to get younger. The deal collapsed at the deadline, however, and in the 29 games following the trade, a looser Barry averaged 7.7 points, making 45 of his 98 three-pointers (45.9 percent). His 22 points Tuesday against the Kings were a playoff career high. BRIEF HISTORY When the Clippers took a 2-0 series lead against the Nuggets, they already set a franchise record, having never held such a lead in a playoff series. Elton Brand already has learned just how easy it is to catch up on the Clippers' playoff past.
