As Steve Nash's basketball career ascends to legendary heights, the Victoria native's feet stay firmly planted on the ground. The two-time NBA MVP was in Vancouver yesterday promoting his new Granville Street sports club but swerved off script, giving a few thoughts on how charitable programs can help the province and countries around the world. "With the Charity Classic we've been so fortunate to do so many great things around British Columbia," he said. "There's a lot of people that need help and are a worthy cause, but at the same time we realize that we're afforded a lot in this part of the world. "So for us to help out some developing nations, Third World countries in particular Latin America, has been rewarding for us." The Steve Nash Foundation works with a hospital in Paraguay and helped build water systems in other parts of the region. Nash intends his posh health club to make similar contributions to the lives of Lower Mainland kids. "What we can do is run a lot of programs through here," he said. "At the same time we'll be using space, and time, and energy and having a synergy with the foundation and the club where we can do something great."
