In Taipei, China’s Davis Cup dynamo Di Wu has again won the decisive fifth
rubber against neighbours Chinese Taipei, giving the visitors a 3-2 win in
their first round relegation play-off tie and ensuring China stay in
Asia/Oceania Group I in 2013.

Just over a year ago, 20-year-old Wu won the fifth rubber against Chinese
Taipei in Shanghai; this time he was even more convincing in hostile
territory, defeating Jimmy Wang, ranked over 300 places above him, 64 76(4)
76(4) in just over three hours.

Dramatic swings in momentum have characterised this tie since its delayed,
rainy start on the Kaohsiung Yang Ming Tennis Courts, and continued right to
the end. Coming into the reverse singles with 2-1 lead after taking the
doubles, China had the tie on the racket of their No. 1 player, Ze Zhang.

impressive performance after his painful loss to Wu in the first rubber by
8-6 in the fifth, after being hobbled by cramp in the last few games. For
Zhang, who starred in China’s doubles win, the loss extends his bleak Davis
Cup singles record to 2-11.

between New Zealand and India as they bid to avoid the drop to Group II.
