[BBC] Goran名言集 The Best of Ivanisevic
The best of Ivanisevic
Former Wimbledon champion Goran Ivanisevic has never been shy about
giving his opinion - here are some of the best quotes from his
rollercoaster 15-year career which ended at Wimbledon.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The worst thing is if I take the whole clay season off and I come
to Wimbledon and then it's the same pain then I will hang myself in
London somewhere."
In March 2002, struggling to find his fitness ahead of his Wimbledon
title defence.
"I wanted to win so badly. Yet I had to be careful out there because
of my father's heart condition. I was afraid his heart might explode."
On the pressure of winning the Wimbledon crown.
"If some angel comes to me in my sleep and says 'Goran you are going
to win Wimbledon but you are not able to touch the racket ever again
in your life', I would say OK I will never play tennis again."
The new champion sums up how much he wanted to win Wimbledon.
"I was always second. Finally, I am a champion. This is everything
for me. Now whatever I do, wherever I go I'll always be Wimbledon
champion."
On his amazing victory in the men's singles final over Pat Rafter
at Wimbledon.
"They've lost my page - somebody ripped it out. But I'm the main
sponsor for the tour, I'm the guy who paid the most fines. So they
should give me respect. There should be a page saying 'This is the
guy who paid the most fines.' I don't exist now, I'm a ghost, so I
can do whatever I want."
On being left out of the 2004 ATP Player Guide.
"I still cannot serve, maybe like 50-60 percent. My second serve is
very slow. I can go on the women's tour with this second serve."
On continuing problems with his shoulder after coming back to the tour
too soon after surgery.
"I should have just hung out on the yacht and revelled in that
Wimbledon win until the grasscourt season rolled around."
On life on the circuit.
"Yes, I said that I would marry if I won Wimbledon, but this is
a new century, new rules are valid now."
The Croatian tries to get himself out of a sticky situation.
"My matches are like horror thrillers and you cannot expect anything.
It's like a movie. I make the movie, but I don't know the end.
That's it."
On his second final defeat at Wimbledon in 1998
"The third Goran had to come, I had to call him.
He's the emergency one. Emergency, 911 call, and he came on deuce.
Calm down, two aces, thank you."
Introducing a third Goran to join the Good Goran and Bad Goran of
earlier interviews following the 2001 final.
"It looks like cricket, you know, just we didn't have a tea break.
And he slept poorly after the first rain delay, lying in bed awake:
OK, is enough, get up, Teletubbies starts at 10am so you have to watch."
On that desperate semi-final against Tim Henman in 2001.
"With me, sometimes I don't know what I am saying but I always try
to say what I mean in that moment. Sometimes it is bad, but who cares.
I have said a lot of stupid things that have cost me. But that's me."
After his final appearance at Wimbledon.
