Stefanos Tsitsipas’ lawyer has insisted the Greek tennis star was not behind th
e wheel when his car was recorded traveling at 210 km/h on Athens’ Attiki Odos
motorway.

The 27-year-old has been fined €2,000, and his driver’s license was revoked fo

Lawyer Thanassis Papathanasiou told authorities that the car was being driven by
a third party at the time of the violation, claiming Tsitsipas had lent the veh
icle. In comments to media, the lawyer did not identify the alleged driver.

The offense was captured by newly installed digital speed cameras, part of Greec
e’s push to improve road safety. An initial batch of cameras have just been pla
ced on major roads, and Tsitsipas is among the first to be fined under the syste
m.
