The award, which has been given monthly since the 1981-82 season, was originally the NBA Rookie of the Month before splitting into Eastern and Western Conference Rookies of the Month in 2001-02. The 6-8, 215-pound guard/forward averaged 16.7 points (ranked fourth among rookies in April) on 45.2 percent shooting, 3.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists (ranked seventh among rookies in April) and 1.1 steals in the month. He also shot 91.3 percent from the free throw line (21-for-23). Hood scored in double figures in six contests during April, including 20-or-more points on three occasions. He helped the Jazz to a 5-3 record for the month, leading the team in scoring twice (April 5 and April 8). Here is a closer look at some of the month’s highlights for Hood: April 5 at Sacramento: Scored a season-high 25 points and added four steals and three rebounds in a 101-95 win over the Kings. April 8 vs. Sacramento: Scored 20 points and added eight rebounds and four assists in a 103-91 win over the Kings. April 11 at Portland: Dished out a season-high eight assists to go with 21 points and two rebounds in a 111-105 win over the Trail Blazers. In 50 games (21 starts) overall on the season, Hood averaged 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists in 21.3 minutes per game. With his 62 three-pointers this season, Hood ranks fourth all-time in Jazz rookie three-pointers made. Brooklyn’s Bojan Bogdanovic was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month.
