The ATP Awards Presented by Waterford Crystal acknowledge the superlative
seasons of the players who finished 2003 as World No. 1s. Andy Roddick became
the youngest American to end the year at No. 1 in the INDESIT ATP Race, earning
the 2003 Player of the Year Award. Roddick won six 2003 titles including his
summer sweep of ATP Masters Series crowns in Montreal and Cincinnati, and his
victory at the US Open.
"It was a big accomplishment to become the sixth American to finish the year
No. 1, and it's great to be recognized with this award today," Roddick said.
"There have been some great players who have won the award before me and I'm
delighted to join the list."
